Evaluation 3

We screened the short film to an audience between the ages of 17 and 22. All were already fans of this area of film  before the media was shown to them. After the film was over, we asked a few generic questions to find out what was missing or what worked well in giving the piece a message and a meaning. Questions such as: What did you enjoy about the film?   -   Do you personally thinks it sits in its stated genre well?    -    what was bad?     -     what was missing?

Changes to Original Story

Changes to the Original

The film will be further assessed to allow us to pick up on minor details before planning of scripts and storyboards has commenced.
We decided that it was important to add our own twist to the story, and so we have decided to omit the scene set in the grocers. As well as this, Mary will not be pregnant in our production.

The idea of using lamb inspired us to add religious imagery- the idea of complete and utter devotion to her husband, and by extension God
In terms of setting, we are keeping to the original story, as our short will be set in a small house, preferably terraced.
We discussed the possibility of having our characters be chavs/slobs, drinking beer and eating either fast food or childish food- for example potato smiley faces. We came to the conclusion that this idea could make our product look overly comical and so difficult to take seriously- Our piece is a satire, it is supposed to be dark, not comical.
Gender bending- We have decided to review the idea of a role reversal- Patrick is a house husband who kills his wife- perhaps he is a minister/reverend.

Poster Research

Poster Research

The TV series American Horror Story is of a similar sub genre to that of our film. The poster is darkly coloured by the use of colour corrections which is used as a vehicle to create suspense before the show has been seen.

It also conveys enigma codes by the use of the the main advocates on the screen. The characters appear out of the ordinary and suspicious due to their side profile only being displayed.

The title of the film is lightly coloured and juxtaposed with the colour red to promote danger and bad will in the film. The font used is of different sizing to represent irregularity throughout the show.

The layout of the poster is simplistic and overall the poster omits dark traditions.

Image result for film posters with faces

The harry potter poster shown left is similar to what we would expect our film poster to be like. The use of light leaks on the image displays dark undertones of the character that is displayed centrally on the poster.

Eye contact is also made with the camera which attracts the niche audience to the murder mystery attributes of the film.

Film review logos are used on the bottom of the poster to give a sense of reputation to the film. This  attribute entices the film to be viewed by an audience which can relate to these sources.

The characters face appears shocked and curious. This allows assumptions to be made that the story line  of the film creates enigma codes and that the film challenges the audience to working out the plot of the character displayed.

Overall I think that the Harry Potter poster will replicate our film poster the most. I will want to apply the use of light leaks on to the protagonists (Patrick's) face as well as him being centred on the front of the poster. Well known review company's or reward ceremony such as "The SUN" and the Oscar's logo will be used to give a high quality reputation before the film has been viewed. Dark colour corrections will also be utilised to convey the sadistic role of Patrick.

Poster and Review Survey

Poster and Review Survey

I made a survey to hand to people that were attracted to the poster and review. The survey will allow me to make sure that the target audience is met before the final film is released. The survey will also help be verify previous research into films of this genre in terms of what makes their ancillary texts effective.
